The sparking effect

Postby joaocg on Sun, 18th Oct 2009, 01:30

Now I know on how to add sparks. It's a quite easy code to apply, using a simple .freeobj
and a tiny .animated file, but certainly I'm thinking on the person who firstly did it,
I bet it was very hard to make this thing work, as well as I'm not an expert in language programming.

So, due to this, I wonder if I should ask for permission to the author to use the texture and the
.animated code?? Mr. Bowden and the TSC team, I presume? (couldn't find an e-mail address to post directly)

My thanks in advance. Case positive, this will help to enrich my incoming route. All brazilian electric
trains use 3 Kv voltage for the overhead wires, so the additional glowing effect is not necessary.

Kind regards,

What's the exact name of the file and where did you download it from? Anthony is generally very favourable towards reuse and sharing, in fact the individual file may already have been released into the public domain.

I saw this effect in LUL Northern Line for OB.
Curious to see this effect while running the route in Route Viewer, you'll
see the sparks in the points being displayed continously (usually flickering more faster when you make some move)
In fact, I was interested on the formula used
in the sparks.animated file, once I created my own MeshBuilder.
Brazilian railways adopted 3.000 Vdc (3Kv) for the overhead wires, although some companies
still use the oldest 1.500v (1.5 Kv), so the additional long mesh that shows that shining light was not
necessary.

You do not think you need to... The readme in the Railway\Route\Northern Line OpenBVE Folder states:
NL4.2_readme_openBVE.txt wrote:All objects and textures built either by or in conjunction with other parties are copyright their respective owners, and must not be re-used, or adapted for public release without seeking prior permission via e-mail. Any other object is by the TSC team and may be freely used elsewhere in part. Please do not contact us, just drop a mention in the credits.

I'm just wondering... Are you guys seriously presuming here that a one-liner of trivial code is eligible for copyright?
