New route type...

Postby alvinwong on Sat, 31st Oct 2009, 14:49

To everyone,
We don't want to wait for new versions of openBVE. We would like to start our own one when we have time in the near future. Should we make a fork or write it and give to michelle? (we prefer the last option)

We will make one of map-based, and not using tracks, but points.

I am thinking of using Bézier curve to mark the tracks.

Not sure who "we" is; ...but remember that writing content is much harder than programming. By using an existing file format, you gain compatibility with, and access to, all of the content and material already available in that format, plus existing creation tools and editors.

I would encourage to look into documenting the TRS/MSTS/KRS file-formats, so that importers can be written.

Agree.
So if anyone else could provide ideas...

Near 16/11/2009 we will finish deciding basic file structure and writing a sample file.

If a new version could not run the older routes, then it would be harder to get many people to use it. Compatibility would be the big question for me.

In the future openBVE 2, the route processor is seperated, then compatibility would not be a problem.
