Chashinai Railway

Postby odakyufan on Mon, 31st Aug 2009, 03:16

Hello, I just wanted you to know about my fictional Japanese route network called Chashinai Railway. It currently consists of 6 routes with a total length of about 55 km, available in sunrise, daytime, sunset and at night, and it comes with 3 distinct types of trains.

For those who already know about it, there has been a recent update. I understand that openBVE's built-in safety systems are for compatibility only, and as I was not satisfied with them, I took the chance to develop my own. This new plugin implements ATS-SN, ATS-P and ATC in a bit more detail, as well as TASC (for automatically stopping the train at stations) and an ATO (for automatically operating the train altogether).

In conjunction with the new plugin, one of the three types of trains (the 9000 series) has gotten a complete overhaul:

Here is the same train, about to stop via TASC. The TASC transponders are clearly visible:

I have the feeling that I will spend some more time on the network as I want the other two types of trains to be overhauled as well, and maybe I also take the chance to offer more lines with backward runs (currently, only one of the six features this).

I hope you enjoy. Please take the time to read the manuals, though. Without the information, you are unlikely to operate the train correctly.

@odakyufan:

thanks for that! i have recently been dreaming about a route with an authenetic TASC plugin.

I have made another update.

Now, all of the three fictional types of trains that are in use in the network have been completely redesigned. Their cabs are now based on photographs found at Ellis and Tommy Railroad Page instead of using the old brownish cabs.

Additionally, some of the forest scenes have been redesigned, and new passengers have been added.

The download size has unfortunately increased to about 17 MB, despite of my attemps to make it smaller. If you update from a previous version, please remove it entirely before downloading the new files. Reason: I have restructured the files and folders, and also, I have converted all BMP images to PNG so that the requird hard disk space is now below 20 MB. Also, please read the operation manuals for the trains.

The URL is http://odakyufan.uuuq.com/ as usual. Have fun.

I have been enjoying driving on these routes. It is a great experience. However I have not been able to solve the problem of an emergency brake application occurring without any prior warning. I am driving the 2000 series train on the Uchjike line and according to the operation manual, before an emergency brake application there should be an advance warning that requires me to disengage power, apply at least brake notch1 and press space. This appears not to happen. All hell breaks loose in the cab as an emergency brake application is initialised without warning, unless of course I am obviously missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I do applaud the creator of this route, he has put a huge amount of effort into it.

The Uchiike line uses ATS-SN, and there are three kinds of transponders with different behavior.

S-type:
Image
Placed a few hundred meters before the signal. If the signal is red, an alarm will start to sound and the ATS SADOU lamp will be lit red. Here, you have to disengage power, apply brake notch 1 or higher, then press SPACE to cancel the alarm. Do all of that within 5 seconds.

SN-type:
Image
Placed directly before the signal. If the signal is red, this triggers the emergency brakes without prior warning.

Accidental stop:
Image
Same situation. If the signal is red, this triggers the emergency brakes without prior warning.

Many thanks for your help. More practice and a good understanding of the route are as always very important.

Hi odakyufan:

Your work is AMAZING. I really love it, especially how you've managed to actually implement TASC and ATO, and the sheer complexity of the network. Two thumbs up :D

I have two suggestions: (1) On the Minaminaka Line, in the forest scenes, the forest background looks flat. Perhaps some way can be found to fix this?
(2) The 9000 series train exterior should probably be redesigned so it looks more modernized. Or at least so the front of the train matches the sides. These are just suggestions though - your work is great!

Yes, the different types of train should have different exteriors (matching the current front of the train), too.
Apart from that, it's a wonderful collection of routes which really I enjoy driving on.

Hi,
Just another question. On the Misaki line at Onomichi station exit there is a red light active. There seems to be no penalty for passing the red even under ATO so I am wondering what the significance of this is.

Try running Misaki Line - Local train 2.csv.

After Onomichi station, there is a branch to a depot. As the track to the depot is not equipped with ATC, Onomichi is the last station for which ATC is in effect. After that, you operate in ATS-SN, and the signal is there for that reason.
